Planning for Music Magazine

What genre/s of music will your magazine cover?
My magazine will cover the music genre, pop.

Who is your target audience? How old are they? Where do they live? What are their interests?
My target audience will be females aged 9 to 17 who mainly live in the UK. Also, towards people who enjoy pop music.

What is the name of your magazine? Why? Connotations?
I’ve decided to call my magazine “Pop it” because this magazine will feature pop artists from all around the world and I thought that if this magazine is going to be aimed towards people who are fans of the genre, they might think of it as a kingdom as it’s only featuring pop music and pop artists. I’ve also had to include “pop” in the name so that people will instantly know that this magazine is related to and only about pop music.

What will you masthead look like? Do you have any ideas for fonts?
I want my masthead to have a playful, bubblegum look thus relating to the music genre, pop. It will be big and bold so that it stands out from the cover. The style of the text will be bubble-writing due to the fact that the style can also relate to the genre. It will have a bold outline around the letters. I will use a circle to represent the 'O' in 'Pop IT', resembling the shape of a bubblegum ball. The 'IT' will be in an 'explosion' shaped bubble, literally presenting a bubblegum if you blow it up and it popped.

What will be the focal image for your front cover and why?
The front cover will be an image of a female model posing with a microphone and lollipop, this is going to symbolise as one of the main features in the magazine as her being the new ruler of pop as well as her enjoying sweet victory, hence the lollipop. She'll also be wearing a tiara to represent that it's her claiming that she is the new pop princess.

What photography will be required? Give details of shot type, angle and composition.
Front page – I’ve decided to use a front, mid-long shot (from the hips up).
Contents (main) image 1 – A mid-shot.
Contents image 2 – A front view, mid shot posing with a blown up bubble gum.
Contents image 3 - A front view, mid shot.
Contents image 4 - A front view, mid shot.

What mise-en-scene wil be required? Location? Clothing? Make up? Lighting? Use of colour?
The location will be in school with a white background. The clothing will be smart/casual clothing and it will be a similar fashion to what pop artists usually wear. Most of the make up will be natural. I plan to use front lighting. The colours I plan to mainly use will be pastel but I might include bright colours as well and they'll be block colours so none of them will have a printed design on it.

What would be your sell lines? How will you entice your target audience?
My sell lines will be mainly relating to pop music and pop artists. I will entice my target audience by including information about the artist, news going on in the music of pop and the latest music tunes that have recently been released. I will include quotations from their featured article in the magazine of what they say in it.

What items and feature articles would you need on your contents page?
I will include features such as the music chart, interviews, reviews, free posters, competitions, news, upcoming performances and concerts, etc. I will include quotations from the interview of the main feature as well as quotations from other celebrities featured in the magazine.

What is the focus of your double page spread? (Interview? Feautre? Reviews? Etc)
My double page spread will be focused on an interview with an artist but on the side, I might include reviews or opinions on the artist from other artists or the public.

What photography will be required for the double page spread? Give specific details.
It will include either a long or mid-long shot of the artist. It will also include close ups (possibly extreme) of other artists that will be featured on the double page spread but only on the side as a small feature to entice the audience with the sell lines.

School Magazine - Planning Brief

Who is the target audience?
My magazine will be aimed at young people, both genders, who are between the ages of 16 – 18 and who are attending 6th form or college. This will appeal to people who are in further education such as college and for those who want to know ways of revision tips as well as being able to balance it out in case they want to add clubs onto their schedule.

What is the name of your magazine?
My magazine is going to be called “PREP UP!” because this magazine is going to be offering help to students with their college lives and help prepare them for the amount of work that they’ll be receiving throughout the year. It will be bold, large and white so that it stands out from the background and so that it catches the attention of people.

Who will be your front cover model and why?
A tall, female, 6th form student in uniform because the magazine is based about college therefore she has to be dressed as a student so that the first impression people will get from the cover is that the magazine is related to education and college.

What sort of shot will it be?
I think that I will be using a medium close up shot.

What mise en scene will be required?
The photo shoot will take place outside on the school grounds and the model will be wearing 6th form uniform. The lighting I will be using is natural lighting meaning daylight.

What would be your sell lines (feature articles)? How will you entice your target audience?
My sell lines will be based on the other articles that feature in the magazine such as revision tips, news from clubs, achievements, earning UCAs points, planning out college life so that you’ll still have time for leisure and things to do during spare time. This is all topics that can be related to my audience.

What items and feature articles would you need on your contents page?

My contents page will include the page numbers that lead to the different parts of the magazine. My features articles will be revision tips, news from clubs, achievements, earning UCAs points, planning out college life so that you’ll still have time for leisure and things to do during spare time. It may also include advertisements.

Also, I will be uploading the images I used for my made-up magazine and the final products of it all. This blog is for me to upload my work for my media portfolio. It might give you ideas of your own but this is pretty much just for media studies.
